A Parish Council is the first tier of local government and consists of local people elected to represent the local community or civil parish.  A Parish Council receives a small amount of funding called the precept which is collected through Council Tax payments.  The Parish Council use the precept to enhance and improve the local community by, for example, maintaining the village notice boards or phone box and working with Devon County Council to maintain rights of way.  To find out more about how local councils work click here.
